Taxi Service to Your Villa
Be aware, there is no regular taxi service between the beaches and St John villas throughout the mountainous hills and neighborhoods on island. Guests may have difficulty getting a safari truck to pick up or drop off at their villa on St. John or could be waiting a long time for that safari truck to arrive by calling on demand. Dollar Bus St John (VITran Bus)
So, the Dollar Bus … The ‘Dollar Bus’ goes from Cruz Bay at the Ferry terminal to Coral Bay (as far as the area near Salt Pond). While incredibly affordable at $2 per ride, it’s not the most reliable or convenient option for visitors and has key drawbacks. The bus doesn’t go to popular beaches, making it unsuitable for most tourists. The dollar bus is a small bus with limited seating, has only one route, goes only to a few stops, does not go to beaches, is a long hour and a half ride from one side of the island to another, and is known not to be the first choice in reliable, convenient transportation.
Do not plan your trip to St John around this bus. You could be waiting, and waiting, and waiting – Maybe not because it is running late – Perhaps because it just isn’t fast at all or that convenient based on the scheduled route that the bus takes.
The bus max seating is only 13, maybe. And doesn’t have room for baggage or beach chairs. There are chances a group of any decent size would not be able to ride: As the other local passengers, who are dependent on the bus for their transportation, will likely beat you in line for the limited amount of seats. Arranging for taxi would be the best option if you do not have your own rental in St John. The Dollar Bus should not be a relied-upon mode of transportation for travelers.
The bus does go out to Coral Bay, but again the stops are limited: Chateau Bordeaux (not sure if this is still a stop); Triangle Turn-Off; Calabash Boom; near Salt Pond.

The Windmill Bar St John
An increasingly popular choice on island is the Windmill Bar. And for good reason! There is an amazing view, great happy hour drinks, relaxing vibe and often live music. There is a regular shuttle from Cruz Bay St John to take travelers on foot to the Windmill Bar. A great way to spend time on island, especially if you are coming to the island for just the day.
